Business Plan Form

Please enter or cut/paste the summary elements of your business plan into this form. It takes several drafts in order to develop a good business plan, so don't be concerned if you don't have all the information you need to complete each section.  Enter what you know and your best estimates for what you don't know.  If you don't know what to write in a section please enter "need help here" in that section.  You are not expected to have the numerical detail if you are early in the planning process.

 

A persuasive summary that will entice a reader to take the plan seriously and

read on (pg.1)

Example:

NewCo is driven by a patent pending technology envisioned to reduce public utility electrical power use in the average 2,400 sq.ft. home located in the Southeast by 60%.  At the same time it will reduce the garbage going to land fill by 25%.  Revenue in the third year is conservatively projected to reach $50 million with EBITDA of 15%.  $10,000 invested prior to start-up is projected to have a market value of $120,000 in year five.

 

The following elements are to be included on page two and three of your business plan.

A. A brief description of the company's history

 

A. Example:  Three years ago while attending Anywhere Technical College, my partner (electrical engineer) and I got the idea for a device that uses household biodegradable waste to generated electrical power.  We made a prototype demonstrating the idea works, applied for a patent, and are now ready to design, develop and commercialize the device.

 

B. The company's objectives

B. Example:  To develop and market products that reduce US dependence on imported oil and/or address global warming.

 

C. A brief description of the company's products or services

C. Example:  Scraps household power generator.  Designed to sell for $900 with a cost to manufacture of $250 (US made).  Future products to be designed with the same technology for industrial locations such as restaurants, hospitals, care facilities, and anywhere biodegradable waste product is available and electricity is used.

 

D. The market(s) in which the business will compete

D. Example: US household appliance markets in sunbelt states.

 

E. A persuasive statement as to why and how the business will succeed,

discussing the business's competitive advantage

E. Example:  No direct competitive product is currently in the market.  Indirect competition includes solar and wind generators that cost three to five times more than the Scraps generator.  Annual energy consumption for homes in the sunbelt is electrical and the regional utilities allow household power generators to be installed in-line. 

 

F. Projected growth for the company and the market

 

F. Example:  The market for household solar power generators is growing at 12% per year in Florida, 10% in Texas, and assumed to be growing at a slightly lower rate in the other sunbelt states.  Company growth in year two is projected at 1,400%,  year three 800%, year four 600%, year five 450%.

G. A brief description of the key management team

 

G. Example:  Harry Smith, President and CEO - AA Anywhere Technical College, MBA Some State University; four years work experience at General Electric as administrative support staff member in the marketing department at the small backup generator division while attending Anywhere Technical College. John Doe, V.P. Product Development - ASEE Anywhere Technical College, MSME Some State University; prior to attending college he served in the US Army as a helicopter mechanic.

 

H. A description of funding requirements, including a time-line and

how the funds will be used

 

H. Example:  $14 million required to fund start-up and working capital during the first four years of operations:  Prior to start-up: $1.5 million  Uses in year one: 30% Product Development, 25% Marketing, 15% Inventory, 20% Equipment, Furniture and Fixtures, 10% Administration.  Year one $2 million, Year two $3 million, Year three $4.5 million, Year four $6 million, Year five projected to be cash positive $3 million. Uses in years two through five, see financial section.
